January Update

I didn’t post about this publicly until now because, to be very honest, I wasn’t sure I could actually do it. I’ve tried some “no spend months” in the past, and usually in the build up to those months I buy a bunch of stuff I “need” in order to make the month less painful…and yet still never stuck to it. So I was scared to go public for fear of failure, which still may happen.

It’s mid-February now, so I thought I would share how January went! I made it through my first whole month, and it wasn’t perfect, but this is a marathon, not a sprint, right?

Clothing, shoes, accessories: I purchased NOTHING in this category this month! Sad to admit it, but this is a huge victory!! I am proud to have made it through the month with no new clothing purchases. At first I felt the itch, I’ll be honest. Cutie influencer posts, instagram ads….I did a lot of unfollwing and “don’t show me this ad” in the month of January. But we made it through. i think this will get harder as the seasons change.

Beauty products: I ran out of a face serum, so I got a replacement. I did try a new product, but it was a comparable replacement to the one I used before. My flat iron I have had for at least 8 years kicked the bucket, so I did replace that as I use it daily! I bought the same brand/model that I had before as I was really impressed with how long it lasted! (truly can’t even remember when I bought it.)

Random Amazon purchases: none! While I did make purchases on Amazon, it was for legitimate needs and not random things. But dang, the convenience of Amazon is wild and I definitely found myself scrolling for things and clicking away.

Lessons learned: I really love to justify things in my head as needs!!! I could identify my own patterns and weaknesses, but am proud to have not have acted on them in the month of January!

Nails, etc: I have been doing SNS nails for quite awhile, can’t remember when I started! I got them off right before the new year and have been painting them myself ever since! I thought I would experiment with the “Red nail theory” (only red nails for the entire year), but OMG red nails are HIGH MAINTENANCE – taking them off is a mess and I am not here for that. I’ve been using the colors from Dazzle Dry and Olive & June that I already own. NOT loving the damage that is growing out from having SNS on for so long, but looking forward to having strong nails at some point….and the gigantic savings!

So, that’s the update. I am proud to have made it through my first month and now that it’s “public,” the pressure is on. 😉
